Protection of people & property is vital to the safe & successful running of any business or organisation. For this reason Northern Security Systems consider the installation & servicing of fire alarm & emergency lighting systems an important part of our range of products & services.
Our experienced staff are able to design, Supply, & commission all types of fire alarm systems in accordance with British Standard BS 5839.
Fire Legislation (your legal obligation)
From 1st October 2006 it became a legal requirement for every business to have a fire risk assessment in place. (fire certificates are no longer required, & the emphasis is on preventing fires & reducing risk)
The Fire Risk assessment is NOT Optional.
Anyone who has control over premises must take reasonable precautions to reduce the risk from fire & make sure people can safely escape if a fire occurs. The regulations apply to all non domestic properties, Including:
- Landlords or managing agents of a property in multiple occupation
- Persons Responsible for managing common areas within apartment blocks or houses with multiple occupants.
- All Employers.
For further information & examples of fire risk assessments please contact us. Alternatively a guide to fire risk assessment & safety is available at: www.firesafetyguides.communities.gov.uk
Which type of System? (Conventional, addressable, or wireless)
For many premises such as small shops, small to medium office buildings, smaller schools, Residential accommodation etc, conventional systems offer extremely cost effective protection against fire. Detection devices and audible warning devices are split into zones, & the control panel will indicate which zone has been triggered, giving you or the fire brigade an indication of the area of activation.
For larger premises such as hospitals, larger hotels, Nursing homes, factories, & industrial premises, a more intelligent “analogue addressable system” maybe more suitable. An addressable system is able to identify specific items of equipment or areas, & provide an on screen text display at the control panel or repeater panel identifying fire activations, disconnections, & faults.
Wireless systems can be a cost effective solution in some circumstances especially if it is important that there is no disruption to the fabric of the building or its occupants. (Wireless systems require no or very little expensive cabling around the premises) Wireless systems can also be used on temporary buildings, then re-fitted when the building is re located.
Please note that some wireless systems require more maintenance than traditional systems as many of the devices are battery powered. A full radio signal strength test should also be carried out prior to any installation
