Paul Hopper

Paul founded the business in 1998 having spotted a significant opportunity to establish a security company with a difference.

Having worked in the construction industry since leaving school, Paul noticed a distinct lack of diligence and operational know how within security companies contracted to protect large scale construction projects, and set up Northern Security to provide professional and  cost effective security with recognised quality standards.

In 2001, long before the mandatory industry regulation was introduced, Northern Security achieved the “National Security Inspectorate” gold standard for security guarding, and key-holding; as a result of the companies impressive track record we were asked to participate in the Pilot scheme which eventually became the SIA approved contractors scheme and helped to shape current mandatory regulation and licensing.

Northern Security was one of the first three companies in the UK to become an approved contractor through the government run approved contractor scheme.

In 2003 our sister company “Northern Security Systems” was established, and as the company has grown we have acquired other security companies helping to establish Northern Security regionally and nationally

A progressive “Can do” attitude has won Paul, and the company, numerous accolades and awards including, “Cumbrian Director of the year” award 2010.

Paul is a chartered company director, and has vast experience across all aspects of security service delivery.

Peter Smith

Peter has been involved in the security industry since the mid eighties, commencing his career as an apprentice engineer with a national security and fire alarm installer straight from school.

Having acquired over 14 years engineering experience including lengthy periods overseas, Peter progressed to establish himself as a successful sales consultant for one of the UKs leading security companies in the late 90s, Specialising in the installation and maintenance of security alarms, fire systems, CCTV, and access control systems.

Peter joined Northern in 2002 and has been instrumental in the company’s growth within the security Guarding / Key holding and electronic systems sector.

What attracted me to the company were the owner’s vision, ambition, and unwavering quest to; do the job right. This can do attitude was sadly lacking in organisations I had worked for previously; Northern Security has, and will continue to prosper due to never compromising on quality, and forever seeking continuous improvement.

Paul Heeran

A highly experienced security professional with multi sector experience including: education, health, aviation, port, petrochemical, retail, telecommunications and manufacturing.

Paul has an intimate knowledge of the security industry due to working his way up from a security officer through to an area manager as well has receiving industry specific training and qualifications. Paul possesses an in-depth knowledge of operational procedures and has produced bespoke processes that enhance the safety, skills, ability and awareness of our personnel. These procedures have been linked to our customer care package and have been intertwined to create bespoke software that produces tailor made service level agreements for our customers.

Paul is an advocate that our front line personnel are our greatest asset and instils this belief in management at all levels. Staff welfare and development are at the fore for Paul and he epitomises the company’s ethic of promoting from within and giving personnel the opportunity of a genuine career path.

When I met our Managing Director, Paul Hopper I was impressed with his ideas, honesty and openness. Paul Hopper’s enthusiasm and vigour matched my own and his progression plans were built on quality and the provision of motivated, properly trained and supported personnel. Almost 10 years on from joining Northern I have witnessed and am proud to say have been part of the progress we have made and look forward to the challenge of future progression.
